ABOUT
How I Work.
Therapy that fits you.
My own journey into counselling began after a career in financial services and leading a youth and community charity. I experienced first-hand how counselling can help us understand ourselves and make sense of our experiences, which continues to shape the way I work today.
I have worked as a Lead Counsellor in NHS primary care and as a Counselling Manager in a community service, as well as a counselling supervisor and trainer. I also lecture in Higher Education. I remain passionate about counselling and about helping people discover hope, possibility and greater freedom in their lives.
I believe counselling works best when there is a genuine, trusting relationship where you feel heard, understood and able to be yourself. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to work alongside you to help you make sense of what you are experiencing and discover ways forward that feel right for you.
I work integratively, with a person-centred foundation. This means I draw on different therapeutic approaches according to your needs, rather than expecting one approach to fit everyone.
Many clients find Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) helpful because it focuses on your hopes for the future, the strengths and resources you already have, and the possibilities for change. Rather than focusing only on what’s wrong, we can explore what you would like to be different and identify realistic steps towards your goals.
Where helpful, I may also draw on CBT-informed approaches to explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, or explore experiences from the past when these are relevant to understanding what you are experiencing today.
I am committed to continuing to learn and develop as a therapist. Alongside my counselling practice, I lecture on a Master’s-level counselling course, including trauma-informed practice. This keeps me connected with current research, thinking and developments, which I bring thoughtfully into my work with clients.
Most importantly, we will work together. We will regularly review how therapy is helping and what you need from our work, so that your therapy remains relevant to you and your goals.
